I used a low temp glue gun, you will be using your fingers a lot so have a small bowl of cold water close by for those times when the hot glue gets you!
Are you ready to get started? Lets start with the headband!
Headband Instructions
Supplies needed for headband:
- plastic headband
- regular felt
- 3″x16″ strip of sequin fabric
- glue gun and glue sticks
- scissors
- 16″ matching grosgrain ribbon
1.Cut the felt on the diagonal to fit the length of the headband. You can tug the felt a little to make it fit to cover the edges.
2.Hot glue the felt to the outside of the headband.
3.Fold the felt over the headband and glue to inside of band.
4.Work your way down the headband until about 2″ from the end.
5.Fold the end of the felt as in the photo and hot glue to headband. Trim the felt to fit the narrow end of the headband.
6.Finish gluing the felt to the headband.

Thank you pretty much for this complete tutorial, hope it’s easy as it seems. We are 3 college girls from Mexico, who loves Disney, so we have just a few minnie mouse ears from Disneyland. This tutorial help us so much, we’ll put in practice. Again, thank you !!

I’m so excited to try these out for the next time I’m in the parks! Such a great post:)
Katy says
Hey Laura, what colour felt would you recommend layering the Rose Gold sequin fabric with? Pink?
Laura says
Katy,
Yes I used a light pink to line the rose gold ears!
Rebecca says
Hi, roughly how wide are the headbands that you use? Thanks!!
Laura says
Rebecca the headbands I use are about one inch wide.
Brenda Angell says
I worry about the sequins messing up my sewing machine, will they?
Laura says
Brenda,I had no problem with the sequins and my sewing machine.
lisa says
I’m excited to try these, Thank you for sharing!
Diana Birlean says
Are the headbands you got from Amazon bigger than the ones used by Disney? My problem is that the ones from Disney squeeze my head and I can’t wear them longer than to take a quick picture. Thank you for the great tutorial.
Laura says
Diana, I have the same problem and honestly it is just trial and error as to the size of the headband. If I were you I would use a headband you already own that doesn’t hurt your head. If that is an option.

These are beautiful where did you purchase your sequin fabrics ?
Laura says
Thank you! I have listed resources on the last page.

Love this!!!! I mistakenly ordered 1/2″ Headbands from Amazon and they are def not wide enough!!! Can you tell me which headbands you ordered? Are they satin covered and do you get the ones with teeth? Thank you so much!!!
Katie says
Thank you for sharing – I am so excited to make these! I was just wondering if the ears stay up well or if they flop around. I have made ears with fabric over cardboard and they were very sturdy, so I’m wondering how these will be once they’re all put together.
Laura says
Katie, They stand very well just like the ones you buy in the Parks!
Laura says
Dot, I use one inch wide headbands and I pick them up where ever I can find them! I have even found some at the dollar store! Good luck!
Christy says
What size felt did you buy. The 4×4 or 8×12
Laura says
I used the 8″x12″.
Laura Niebling says
Hi Laura,
Thanks for a great tutorial. I was wondering if you could sew in the interface as you are sewing the ears together?
Danielle says
Thank you for making this tutorial! I’m planning a girls’ trip to Disneyland soon and I’m wondering how many pairs of ears do you think you could make from one runner? I don’t want to order the wrong number!
Laura says
I didn’t only because it acts as a stabilizer in the middle of the ear. Plus the pattern piece does not allow for seam allowances.
Laura says
If you placed the pattern pieces carefully I would say maybe 3 per runner. I would order an extra runner just to be safe. If you order from Amazon you can always return it if you dont use it.
Danielle says
Thank you for this tutorial! I’m trying to make several pairs of ears at once for a girls trip. About how many do you think you could get out of each runner?

Great tutorial.

I love this tutorial! I have seen/read so many. This is nice and detailed. Quick question, pardon my ignorance but when you talk about stiff interfacing…which kind? I know nothing about it and there are so many types and weights! Also, once put inside the ears you mention ‘opening it’? So that means the filling will go inside the interfacing and not between the interfacing and the fabric correct?
Laura says
Hello, I apologize for the confusion let me see if I can answer your questions. As far as interfacing goes your right, it comes in various weights and stiffness, I used a very stiff interfacing. I dont want to sound like I am not answering your question but the best thing to do is ask the sales associate at the fabric store to help you find a fairly stiff interfacing. It is hard to explain without being able to see and feel the different weights of interfacing. This Amazon link might help https://amzn.to/2KUkVok . When I mentioned “opening” the interfacing I was referring to unfolding the interfacing as I had to fold it in thirds to get it to fit through the small opening left in the ear. You are correct the filling/stuffing goes in between the interfacing and the inside/back of the sequin fabric. I put batting on both sides of the interfacing. I just kept putting small amounts inside until I liked the way it looked. Again I apologize for all the confusion. If this does not answer your questions please let me know!

Brenda says
I was wondering what stitch you used to sew the ears?
Laura says
Hello Brenda,
I just used a straight stitch for all the sewing.
