Ok confession time. I love bread just about any kind of bread, white bread, quick bread, savory bread, sweet bread, doughnuts, muffins, and just about any other kind of bread. I could eat toast all day long. So why am I confessing about my love of bread? Well I am sharing with you a little take off on bread. I concocted these Strawberry Cream Cheese Faux nuts.
Rhodes Frozen Roll aka BREAD! Yes I started these little gems with frozen rolls. I used Rhodes Dinner Yeast Rolls they are the perfect size. I did not want these doughnuts to be ginormous!
I love baking with my little granddaughter and I so wish she lived closer so a lot of my recipes I like to make kid friendly and this one is a perfect recipe to make with your kids. What kid doesn’t like sticking their fingers into soft bread dough? I dont know too many. LOL! Another thing I like to do with my recipes is use what is already in my kitchen. You can adapt this recipe to use what ever jam you have and if you dont have cream cheese just make them without it. They are just as yummy.
So let your rolls thaw until they are thawed but still cold. Use your thumb to create a well in the middle of the dough, fill with a dollop of cream cheese strawberry mixture. Pop in the oven and bake until golden brown. While doughnuts are baking make your glaze.
Strawberry Cream Cheese Thumbprint Doughnuts
Ingredients
- 12 Rhodes Frozen Dinner Rolls
- 2 oz softened cream cheese
- 4 TBSP strawberry jam 2 to mix in cream cheese, 2 for garnish on top
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 TBSP milk
These are best served the day they are baked but pop them in the microwave for 20 seconds and they taste just like they came out of the oven. Oooey gooey good!
