It’s “Back to School” here in Arizona and all the moms with school age kiddos are jumping for joy! I don’t blame them summers in Arizona can be brutal and this summer is no exception. Now I remember as a kid coming home from school and baking something yummy. My mom worked so I was always in charge of making a dessert for dinner. This recipe for Five Layer Cake Mix Bars are so easy to pull together and are fantastic for that after school treat.
Have you ever baked with marshmallows on the top of cakes and cookies? Did you try to cut them into bars and the marshmallows pull off the top leaving the cookie or cake without that marshamallowy top? Well I have many times and I am almost embarrassed to tell you I finally figured out how to cut those bars without pulling the marshmallows off the top! Cooking spray! Yes that’s right I used cooking spray on both sides of the knife and boom the marshmallows don’t pull up and off with the knife! this is so easy I can’t believe I never thought to try this before. It is such as simple thing to do and it works so well.
Now lets talk about how delicious these Five Layer Cake Mix Bars are. A tender buttery crust topped with marshmallows, peanuts, chocolate chips and mini m&m’s. Mr. Pinkcakeplate could not stop eating them. The thing I really like about this recipe is you can really mix up the toppings and the cake mix. I think next on my agenda is a chocolate cake mix with peanut butter chips. Now doesn’t that sound yummy?
