I was able to preview Beauty and the Beast complimentary in order to facilitate this conversation.
Today is the long awaited day of the release of the Disney live action film Beauty and the Beast. I was able to to have a sneak peak about a week or so ago. I loved the movie so much I had to create this delicious Gray Stuff Cupcake.
For me as we all know it is all about tieing food into just about every aspect of life, because that is what we do. I was so excited to be able to have this sneak peak of Beauty and the Beast I knew just what I wanted to make in conjunction with my review of the film. I was also inspired by all the photos of the Gray Stuff I was seeing on Instagram like this one from Kimberly of A Night Owl Blog. Isn’t it pretty?
I was going to make the shortbread cookie but I thought how about putting the Gray Stuff on top of a Deep Red Velvet Cupcake? I thought it would be much easier and I like cake way better than a short bread cookie so in my mind it was perfect!
This recipe is just for the gray stuff itself which you can serve alone but hey when there is cake… Bake your favorite cupcake weather it be white, chocolate or red velvet and top it with Gray Stuff.
Now onto the movie. What I can say is it is by far the best live action movie Disney has done yet. The cast was perfect, the music divine, the cinematography superb, the animation was above and beyond any thing Disney has done to date.
The cast was perfect, Emma Watson played Belle in a way that proved Belle to be strong, intelligent, and most of all brave. Her voice was a pleasant surprise. She held her own with her singing.
This story was not only the story of the Beasts’ change but of everyone’s. Belle had to change, the towns people had to change, the servants of the castle were also subject to change. Softening of hearts and opening of minds was very clearly intertwined in the “tale as old as time”. When my heart is touched with truth, beauty and kindness my eyes are filled with tears. Many times during the movie this was the case. The music alone was beautiful and well done. I am not a professional movie reviewer so to speak but in my opinion this movie is one of the most well done movies I have seen in years. It is appropriate for most to see. I would not bring young children to see this movie as there were some scary parts, by young I mean like 3 or 4 years old. Your children will love this movie. The portrayal of all the characters was so superbly done I absolutely loved Lumiere he was my favorite and I kinda think he stole the show at some points in the movie but that is what he does and we all love him for that. Mrs. Potts and Chip were simply lovely of course I have always love Emma Thompson and this part was perfect for her. All I can say is go see the movie, you will not be disappointed at all!
It is a beautiful movie and all will enjoy it. But to prepare to see the movie make some of these Gray Stuff Cupcakes!
Grey Stuff Cupcake Beauty and The Beast
Ingredients
- 1 3.4 ounce pkg Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix
- 1 1/2 cups Milk
- 15 regular Oreos
- 3-4 cups whipped cream whipped to stiff peaks
- 3 tablespoons Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix
- 2 tsp vanilla separated
- Edible Pearl Sprinkles
Instructions
- Mix entire contents of vanilla pudding mix, 3 Tablespoons chocolate pudding,1 tsp vanilla, and milk in a large bowl with a whisk. Set in fridge to chill 5-10 minutes.
- Place Oreos in food processor and blend until they are fine crumbs (no large chunks). If you don't have a food processor, you can place them into a gallon-size freezer bag and smash using a rolling pin. This will take a bit of time, since you'll want to get rid of all large pieces.
- Take the pudding from the fridge and mix in the crushed Oreos. The mixture will be dark gray/black. Now, fold in whipped cream being careful not to break down the whipped cream. It now is a lighter color but not quite gray.Place back in fridge to chill for at least one hour before serving.
- To serve, spoon into a cake decorating bag fitted with a star tip (Wilton 1M) pipe on top of each cupcake in a swirl pattern. Top with a few edible pearl sprinkles.
- This will frost 12-14 cupcakes.

Hi Laura! I’m in the process now of making your Gray Stuff recipe! Sounds delicious! I’m curious for the Oreos, did you separate the cookies from the white frosting before placing them in the processor?
Thank you!
Lyndsi
