I am always trying to eat right not that it happens but I try!!! Starting your day with a whole grain cereal choice is a good way to make that happen. I love to eat dry cereal as a snack too. I am a snacker all the way so if I choose dry cereal to eat I feel a little better about that choice than if I were to eat candy or chips!!!
General Mills has always been big on using whole grains for their cereals!! The entire Big G cereal line is made with whole grains, making cereal even healthier.
All Big G cereals have at least 9 grams of whole grain per serving; at least 48 grams recommended daily.
What is considered “whole grain”? Take a look!
When grains are milled, or refined, the bran and germ are removed, leaving only the endosperm.
Whole grain cereals use the entire grain seed of wheat, rye, rice, barley, corn, or oats without milling out the bran and germ. “Whole grain” means it’s the complete grain, including the bran, the germ and the endosperm. The health benefits of whole grain come from those three components working together in their natural proportions.
The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that at least half of your grains are whole. For most people, that translates into at least 48 grams daily. Every General Mills Big G cereal contains at least 8 grams of whole grain per serving, and more than 20 General Mills cereals deliver 16 grams or more.
I recived a fantatic sampling of the Big G cereals to try!! This is what I was sent!
I decided to make some Leprechaun Munchies using the Big G Cereal Lucky Charms!!! It is basically a Crispy Rice treat using Lucky Charms and a bit of chocolate!! YUMM!
Here is the recipe:
Leprechaun Munchies
3 T Butter
1 -10 oz pkg marshmallows
6 Cups Lucky Charms Cereal
2 oz chocolate for drizzling (this can be ommited)
1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
2. Add Lucky Charm cereal. Stir until well coated.
3. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cool.
Melt chocolate and drizzle with a fork over top of treat. Let cool. Cut into 2-inch squares. Best if served the same day.
MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS:
In microwave-safe bowl heat butter and marshmallows on HIGH for 3 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Follow steps 2 and 3 above. Microwave cooking times may vary.
Note
-For best results, use fresh marshmallows.
-1 jar (7 oz.) marshmallow crème can be substituted for marshmallows.
-Diet, reduced calorie or tub margarine is not recommended.
