Morning every one Mr.Pinkcakeplate here! Yup doing another review because well frankly I know more about the Marvel series than Mrs. Pinkcakeplate will ever know!! And yes she totally agrees!! So today here is my synopsis of the new Ant-Man movie!!
Get ready folks! Ant-Man has arrived! This movie certainly makes up for not including Ant-Man in the original Avengers movies. For those not in the know as to the timelines of the Marvel Universe, Ant-Man was one of the first Avengers alongside Captain America. Dr Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas, was a brilliant scientist working alongside Howard Stark. Dr. Pym’s invention of a serum that allows the space between atoms to shrink while increasing the strength is what allows the Ant-Man to shrink while increasing his strength respectively. In the beginning of the movie, we see Dr. Pym getting angry that S.H.I.E.L.D. would use his invention for other things and confronting the seniors (Howard Stark and Peggy Carter) warning them that his invention is his and will not be shared. He in turn resigns from S.H.I.E.L.D..
Roll forward about 30 years to the present. Scott Lang, a brilliant “Cat Burglar” who is jailed for being a modern day Robin Hood for defeating multi-national corporation by breaking into the unbreakable building and stealing the billions of dollars that have been skimmed from the public and giving it back. Dr. Pym is intrigued by his skills and devises a scheme to get Scott to break into this old guys house and steal whatever he finds in this old safe in the basement. What he finds is the Ant-Man suit. Scott wonders why someone would go to such great lengths to protect an old motorcycle suit, so he puts it on and discovers what it really does. Scared to death for what he finds, he attempts to return it only to get caught and arrested. Scott then gets a visit from his “lawyer”, Dr. Pym, who tells him the story of Ant-Man. Dr. Pym then arranges for his escape. Thus, the new Ant-Man is born.
Scott then begins his training, being trained by Dr. Pym’s daughter, Hope van Dyne (Played by the beautiful Evangeline Lilly of Lost and the Hobbit fame). As most movies go, Hope is bitter towards her father for not telling her what really happened to her mother. Spoiler alert, Hopes mother was another of the original Avengers known as the Wasp. She also had a suit with the same technology as the Ant-Man suit. She died on a mission where they just weren’t small enough to do the job and she turned off her safety regulator and shrunk, as Dr. Pym puts it, into nothingness.
As with all comic book movies, there is a villain. Though this one is not of the epicness of Thanos or the Red Skull, Darren Cross aka the Yellow Jacket, fits the bill nicely. Mr. Cross was a protégé of Dr. Pym’s and became obsessed with the rumors of a shrinking technology. He uncovers some long lost notes, with the help of Hope van Dyne and develops a similar serum that will shrink things, but hasn’t got it perfected enough to shrink organic material without turning them into a pile of goo. Dr. Cross eventually realizes that the subject matter needs to be insulated within a protective shell to be shrunk and thus, the Yellow Jacket is born. The Yellow Jacket is an armored skeleton suit much like the robot warrior suits found in Avatar. Imagine an army of tiny mechanized soldiers with advanced weaponry and super strength. Who wouldn’t want that? Scorned and ridiculed by Dr. Pym, Dr. Cross attempts to sell his technology to Hydra. The rest of the story sells itself.
In an attempt to find a piece of technology to break into Dr. Cross’s lab and steal the shrinking technology, Scott needs to break into an old warehouse of Howard Stark’s. What he soon finds out is the warehouse has become the new Avengers training facility. The Ant-Man soon finds himself fighting the Falcon. I won’t spoil the movie from here.
If your looking for a good movie to see Ant-Man is on the top of my list! It will not disappoint!
