Have you seen the movie Paddington?? I remember the story from my childhood!! Do you know on Friday, April 17th, the delightful major motion picture, Paddington, will be available to own in Digital HD , 11 days before you can buy it in stores! I am so excited I was invited to create a fun treat that families can make and enjoy for thier Paddington movie night!! I just love cupcakes so I created a Paddington Hat Cupcake with the iconic Paddington Bear hat made out of candy to embellish the cupcake! We know orange marmalade is Paddingtons’ favorite, I combined the marmalade with chocolate to create a yummy cupcake!!
Before I get down to the details of how to make the cupcake and hat, let me tell you a little about how the early digital release can help and inspire a fun and easy opportunity for families to spend time and build memories by throwing a Paddington Movie Night. What else is exciting is the website it is full of some really fun coloring pages and an amazing free digital party kit. You can pre-order your copy of Paddington and start planning that party!!
Lets start with the Iconic Hat I used one of the coloring pages as a pattern to make the hats!! You can dowload your own copy HERE.
You will need red and black candy melts and a Wilton candy decorating bags, (you can find these at Walmart) and parchment paper. You can melt the candy melts right in the decorating bags which makes life easy!!
Place the parchment paper over the drawing printable and I used washi tape to tape the parchment paper down. With the candy melts melted, snip the tip of the bag off and trace the outlines of the hat. This does not have to be perfect look closely mine are far from perfect!!! Let the outline sit and harden for about 30 seconds.
Once hardened then fill in the outline with the melted candy.
Gently tap the tray on the counter, the candy will spread out just a bit and remove the hard lines. I put the tray in my freezer to speed up the candy setting.
With the hat hardened its time to add the details. I added another layer to create the brim of the hat, with the melted candy I did a very interpretive figure 8 and then just did a back and forth motion to create the detail in the brim. Let this harden.
In another decorating bag melt the black candy melts. When melted snip the tip and add the black band and the accent details to the top of the hat. Let harden completely.
Repeat steps until you have the desired number of hats to decorate your cupcakes.
Now on to the cupcakes. I started with a basic chocolate cake mix I added 1/2 cup of orange marmalade to the batter and replaced the water with orange juice then followed the directions on the back of the box to complete the cupcakes. Now what would be better than to top the cupcake with a delicious Cream Cheese Frosting???
Now to make it pretty I made a drizzle with the orange marmalade and drizzled over the frosted cupcake sprinkled with chocolate curls, and then placed a candy hat in the frosting on the cupcake!!
Look at these adorable cupcake wrappers!! You can download them from the Paddingtonparties.com website!! They are perfect for a Paddington Party
I even made a video hopefully it will be easier for you to see the steps to make these adorable cupcakes!!
