Things have been really crazy at our house the past week. I brought home a new puppy and let me tell you I totally forgot how much work a puppy can be. I have been so busy that dinner has been forgotten a time or two the last week. Luckily for me Mr. Pinkcakeplate is happy with a sandwich for dinner. And lucky for him I have become quite the sandwich artist! It was one busy night I created this Ham, Gouda and Apple Melt. This is such an easy recipe using just a few ingredients you have on hand!
The makings of a great sandwich has to start with great bread and I love Pepperidge Farm® breads. This sandwich is no exception I chose to start this great sandwich with “Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse ® Hearty White, I love love love bread and Farmhouse® Hearty White is sooo good it has such great flavor and texture with fresh from the oven taste. It has the right amount of body to hold up to this Ham, Gouda and Apple Melt sandwich.
Now on to the layers of delicious ingredients that will be held between the delicious slices of Farmhouse® Hearty White bread. Hillshire Farm® Thin Sliced Honey Ham is perfect to stack in any sandwich, and I love that Hillshire Farm® Ham lunch meat contains no artificial flavors, no by-products. Yummy, yummy, yummy is all I can say about Hillshire Farm® Thin Sliced Honey Ham. Gouda cheese was what I had on hand but you can use your favorite. Cheddar cheese goes great with apples so I think that would be a great swap for this melt. Make sure to slice the apples thin but not too thin you don’t want them to cook too much that they get mushy!
Now the particular night I served this sandwich for dinner I had no butter to use to grill the sandwich. I know you’re now wondering how this sandwich had such a beautiful golden color without using butter! I had my favorite mayonnaise Best Foods® Real Mayonnaise on hand and I used it on the inside of the sandwich as well as the outside. Not only did this add flavor but look at that golden crust. Oh man it is crazy good. And not to mention so easy to make!
What would you use for a grilled sandwich if you ran out of butter? Try Best Foods® Real Mayonnaise I promise you won’t be disappointed!
I was lucky I had all my ingredients on hand but you can find all these products at your local Walmart.
Do you have a favorite sandwich? What cheese would you use on this sandwich instead of gouda?
