Day 12~ “31 Days of PINK” Liz from Lizzy Jane Baby

Hi Pink Cake Plate friends!  My name is Liz and I blog over at Lizzie Jane Baby.  I feel so honored to be here at Pink Cake Plate today and be a part of this fabulous series, 31 Days of Pink.  Thank you Laura for allowing me to share with your readers today.  When Laura asked if I’d like to participate, and share with you something pink that is special to me, my mind immediately went to this pink blanket.  

This blanket was given to me by my grandmother when I was about 1.  As a baby/toddler/kid I was a thumb sucker.  But I couldn’t suck my thumb unless I had this blanket.  This blanket used to have one of those satiny edges sewn on the outer edge, but as you can see, it is now gone.  I used to rub that satiny edge as I sucked my thumb.  It wasn’t until I was in 3rd or 4th grade and my parents finally took my pink silky blanket away, that I finally was able to kick the habit.  (Yikes right?!?!)  Anyway, many years later, I spotted this blanket in my parents room and I had the weirdest, most intense urge to, you guessed it, suck my thumb!  It was the first time I can remember ever having such a reaction to a “thing”.  Don’t worry, I was able to refrain, but I picked up the blanket and have kept it in my closet.  This blanket reminds me of being a kid and the love, safety and security that I felt growing up.  Now my own daughter gets to use this blanket.  Luckily she didn’t inherit her mommy’s bad habit :), but hopefully she will feel the same love and security from her daddy and me, that I felt (and still feel) from my parents.
