Bridge of Spies opens in theaters today! I had the opportunity to see a preview and I have to say it gives you a lot to think about!

Screenwriters Matt Charman and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen have woven this remarkable experience in Donovan’s life into a story inspired by true events that captures the essence of a man who risked everything and vividly brings his personal journey to life.”

Tom Hanks once again provides a stellar performance as James Donovan .  I might be biased I am a huge Tom Hanks fan.  The movie provided moments of laughter and tears. Not that you will need a box of tissues but you will walk a way with a good feeling.

Since the movie revolves around Russia I had to try this recipe for Russian Tea Cakes.  They are a cross between a pecan sandie and shortbread. I loved the powdered sugar on the outside it made them a bit messy but so worth it.  They are super easy too!

Russian Tea Cakes

Ingredients Method

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup butter or margarine softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped nuts
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar

Method
 

  1. Heat oven to 400ºF.
  2. Mix butter, 1/2 cup powdered sugar and the vanilla in large bowl. Stir in flour, nuts and salt until dough holds together.
  3. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  4. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set but not brown. Remove from cookie sheet. Cool slightly on wire rack.
  5. Roll warm cookies in powdered sugar; cool on wire rack. Roll in powdered sugar again.

I think I ate every one of these little cookies by myself! Don’t tell on me!
