Bridge of Spies opens in theaters today! I had the opportunity to see a preview and I have to say it gives you a lot to think about!
“A dramatic thriller set against the backdrop of a series of historic events, “Bridge of Spies” tells the story of James Donovan, a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. Screenwriters Matt Charman and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen have woven this remarkable experience in Donovan’s life into a story inspired by true events that captures the essence of a man who risked everything and vividly brings his personal journey to life.”
Tom Hanks once again provides a stellar performance as James Donovan . I might be biased I am a huge Tom Hanks fan. The movie provided moments of laughter and tears. Not that you will need a box of tissues but you will walk a way with a good feeling.
Since the movie revolves around Russia I had to try this recipe for Russian Tea Cakes. They are a cross between a pecan sandie and shortbread. I loved the powdered sugar on the outside it made them a bit messy but so worth it. They are super easy too!

Ingredients
Method
- Heat oven to 400ºF.
- Mix butter, 1/2 cup powdered sugar and the vanilla in large bowl. Stir in flour, nuts and salt until dough holds together.
- Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set but not brown. Remove from cookie sheet. Cool slightly on wire rack.
- Roll warm cookies in powdered sugar; cool on wire rack. Roll in powdered sugar again.
I think I ate every one of these little cookies by myself! Don’t tell on me!
They are perfect with a cup of hot cocoa or tea! Imagine that!
