Puff Pastry Salad Bowl Tutorial
Gather your tools. You will need a sharp knife or pizza cutter and a ruler.
Roll your Puff Pastry Sheet to a 16″x16″ square. Using the ruler cut approximately 22 strips so they are a little under 1/2″ wide. Set 2 of these strips aside and make sure you do not cut them in half. One sheet of Puff Pastry will make 2 salad sized bowls.
Cut the remaining strips in half so they are 8″inches long. Next you are going to do a basic basket weave. Using water make sure to secure the free edge of the pastry to the edge of the outer strip. Doing this as you go makes it much easier than waiting to the end.
Continue your basket weave alternating strips.
There is not an exact number of strips I usually ended up using 9 strips by 9 strips. Remember to use water to seal the free edges of the pastry. Using the rolling pin I carefully rolled the woven pastry out about a half inch bigger than it is when finished weaving, this gently sealed the strips together.
Using an oven save bowl I covered it with foil.
Carefully pick up the woven pastry and place it over the foil covered bowl.
With a sharp knife or the pizza cutter carefully cut away the extra pastry at the edge of the bowl. Use your hands to shape the pastry so it lays evenly around the bowl.
Using one of the long strips set aside earlier wet one side with water and place the wet side of the pastry at the bottom of the bowl all the way around. Using your hands carefully press the pastry so it is firmly adhered to the woven pastry. (I apologize I did not photograph this but you can see the pastry at the bottom of the bowl in the below photo)
Bake in a pre heated oven at 400 degrees for about 20 minuts or until golden brown. You can brush the pastry with an egg wash to get that shiney golden color. I think I would do that the next time I make these!!

Your ideas were simply amazing. I love the salad bowl. Did you roll the 2 long strips for the top of the bowl? In yu picture when it was baked, it almost looked as though you rolled the pastry.
I’m definately trying that salad bowl, I just love it. Congratulations on such creativity.
